Project Description

BUILDING A GLOBAL FUTURE IN CONTEXTUAL THEOLOGY

The Catholic University of Rwanda (CUR), in strategic partnership with Cardinal Stefan Wyszyński University in Warsaw (UKSW), is launching a transformative international project under the NAWA KATAMARAN Program to co-develop a joint Master’s degree in Theology. This initiative is designed to strengthen academic internationalization while advancing a new model of contextual and intercultural theological education linking Africa and Europe.

At the core of the project is the creation of an innovative academic ecosystem that includes a Laboratory of Contextual Theology, a jointly designed curriculum, pilot “mirror classes” delivered between Rwanda and Poland, and a digital platform titled Theology Without Borders. The program also establishes a Poland–Africa Dialogue Forum to foster academic exchange, research collaboration, and intercultural dialogue.

For students, this initiative provides access to a globally co-designed program, immersive digital learning environments, and direct engagement with diverse theological traditions. It enhances academic mobility, critical thinking, and professional opportunities in Church, education, and social development sectors.

For CUR and UKSW, the partnership strengthens institutional visibility, advances curriculum innovation, and consolidates international research and teaching collaboration. It positions both universities as leaders in cross-continental theological education and digital academic transformation.

For the Church in Rwanda and Poland, the project supports the formation of well-prepared theologians capable of responding to contemporary pastoral and societal challenges, while deepening intercultural understanding within the universal Church.
This partnership marks a strategic step toward a connected, innovative, and globally engaged model of theological education serving both academic excellence and the mission of the Church.
