The Two days Workshop on water management and Hydrowatt, taking place from 1st to 2nd April, 2025, is an intensive capacity-building event focused on water management, renewable energy, and agriculture to enhance local resilience to climate change in Africa. Organized under the NISHATI Project, this initiative brings together experts, researchers, and practitioners to share knowledge, foster innovation, and build sustainable solutions.

Distinguished Keynote Speaker

Catholic University of Rwanda (CUR) is honored to host Flavio Andreoli Bonazzi, MD of Hydrowatt SPA and President of EPICO, as the keynote speaker from Italy. He will be visiting the Catholic University of Rwanda from Sunday, March 30, 2025 to Wednesday, April 2nd, 2025. Further areas of collaboration in water management will be explored.

EMPOWERING THE ACADEMIC COOPERATION BETWEEN ITALY AND AFRICA

FOR FOSTERING THE QUALITY AND EFFECTIVENESS OF THE HIGHER EDUCATION SYSTEMS IN A MUTUAL LEARNING ENVIRONMENT

UNITAFRICA is a project funded by the Italian Ministry of University and Research (MUR). In this project, 21 Italian Universities (IUs) and 93 African Universities (AUs), under the UNITAFRICA Alliance, aim to empower mutual Cooperation in order to improve the quality and effectiveness of the higher education systems based on a mutual learning approach while strengthening the Italian academic system in Africa.

UNITAFRICA PROJECT

Empowering Academic Cooperation Between Italy and Africa for Quality Higher Education Systems

UNITAFRICA is funded by the Italian Ministry of University and Research (MUR), bringing together 21 Italian Universities and 93 African Universities under the UNITAFRICA Alliance to improve higher education quality through mutual learning approaches while strengthening the Italian academic system in Africa.

THE SPECIFIC OBJECTIVES

🌐 Creating Enabling Environment (WP2)

To create an enabling physical and virtual environment for the development of project activities that can last over time, ensuring sustainable infrastructure for long-term collaboration and knowledge sharing between Italian and African institutions.

✈️ Strengthening Academic Mobility (WP3, WP4)

To strengthen the mobility of students and academic staff from higher education institutions across international borders between Italy and Africa, facilitating bi-directional exchange programs that enhance global perspectives and cross-cultural understanding.

🎓 Increasing Mutual Education (WP3)

To increase mutual education among students (Master and PhDs) to become aware citizens able to use science and technology as tools to promote local development in line with the African Union Agenda 2063, fostering innovation-driven development across the continent.

🤝 Improving Joint Collaborations (WP4)

To improve joint collaborations among researchers and teaching staff, to increase the capacity to enhance quality, innovation and update of teaching and research programs and to increase the skills, motivation and involvement of all academic staff (teaching, administration and information technology (IT)).

📊 Evaluating Educational Effectiveness (WP5)

To evaluate the effectiveness of the education activities proposed during the project in terms of impact of the quality of education and effects generated, ensuring measurable outcomes and continuous improvement of educational methodologies.

UNITAFRICA IS EXPECTED TO:

📋 Guidelines and Best Practices

Identify guidelines and best practices on teaching methodologies in relation to their effectiveness and the generated impact, creating a comprehensive framework for educational excellence that can be replicated across institutions.

🔗 Strengthening Synergies

Create solid bases for building and strengthening synergies in joint training programs between Italy and Africa, establishing sustainable partnerships that extend beyond the project timeline and create lasting educational bonds.

💡 Educational Innovation

Encourage the education programmes' improvements and the use of innovative teaching methods, incorporating cutting-edge pedagogical approaches and technological solutions to enhance learning experiences.

🌍 Enhanced Internationalization

Increase the level of internationalization of both IUs and AUs through an effective bidirectional mobility of students, teaching and non-teaching staff, creating truly global academic communities.

🤝 Long-term Cooperation

Promote an effective cooperation in teaching and research among the participating universities far beyond the project through the establishment of the UNITAFRICA alliance in joint collaboration with CUCS.

🔬 New Scientific Perspective

Promote a new perspective of science for human growth and development, emphasizing the role of scientific knowledge in addressing societal challenges and promoting sustainable development across Africa and Italy.

Through UNITAFRICA, we envision a transformed higher education landscape where Italian and African universities work in seamless collaboration, sharing knowledge, resources, and expertise to address global challenges while respecting local contexts and promoting mutual understanding.
